Many Moods

Everyone knows that not every picture is a bright smiling face, and although we love the bright smiling face ones, there's oh-so-many photos left to scrap showing the highs and lows of emotion. Connie Prince has hit the nail on the head with her In a Mood kit, with the most adorable little emoticons and grungy word strips. She also has a set of word art that coordinates with the kit.

One day Hunter comes along and says "I poo," and sure enough he was. We were so excited thinking gosh now we get to potty train him, forgetting all about his delays. I rushed right out and bought a cute little potty, and even let him play with my sea shells that is always a big fat "no" when he tries to touch them. I sat on the floor in front of him and let him play away with the shells, helping him line them up along the side of the tub, and just trying to keep him entertained until finally he would (assumingly) use the little potty and we could clap and praise him ... but after about 45 minutes I started getting the "many moods" of Hunter, some of them not so pleasant.

I just accepted a CT position with the wonderful designer Pardon the Mess, and my first project was with her One More Day. She designed this kit with her mother in mind, who she just lost, and although it's been almost 15 years since I lost mine, I still know very well how she feels, and this kit is just a beautiful tribute, not just to lost loved ones, but to all family members!

Greeting card templates

How many of you have thought about creating your own personalized greeting cards, for Christmas, Birthdays, Valentine's Day, whatever, but just didn't know where/how to start? Well, that's me, for sure! In fact, I was skeptical I could even create one with a template. Not so with these Photo Card Templates by MDK Scraps ... it's so, so easy. These templates are being released with Christmas in mind, but anyone whose ever used a template knows it's easy as 1, 2, 3 to change the text, and you can manipulate the templates to fit your photo orientation, etc. As you can see from my layout following the preview, I did just that with the first template. My second photo was portrait orientation rather than landscape, so I changed it up, along with the text spaces, and was done with the entire card in less than an hour (that INCLUDES deciding what kit, elements, papers, etc. to use)! This is the very first card I ever created. THAT'S how easy the templates are! This is my daughter, Sara, and grandbaby, Brae, last winter in the snow. You'll probably be seeing a few of these photos in my layouts this winter because I don't have many winter photos, and of the ones I do, these are the best! I love the photo of Brae with snow on her eyelashes, even though her lips are blue she's so cold LOL.

Now, for my layout. I have to admit I am a little reluctant putting it "out there". While my daughter says "oh, Mom, it's wonderful," (of course she would, I was feeding her that night LOL) I'm not happy with it at all. I worked all day yesterday on it, re-doing the clustering and moving things about, but there's just so much in the kit that I just HAD to use (i.e. couldn't choose from LOL)! Anyway, here's two of my little monsters, Hunter and Brae, who I immediately thought of when I saw this kit because of the way they act when they're together. They love playing together, but they just don't love playing NICE together LOL.

I have to tell you, when I saw the title, not necessarily the kit, I knew I wanted to to scrap one of my older photos that we've recently dug up of my father and uncle, but then when I saw the kit, and the colors, I found it to be a challenge, but then I had a great time scrapping it! It's nice to find a kit that's full of pinks and flowers and then find you can still create a masculine layout with it. MDK Scraps has always been one of my favorite designers because her kits do have versatility, because she includes oh so much goodness in them! Wow, no posts since early June!?

I knew I had been MIA for a little while, but definitely not almost 3 months!! It has been wild! I finally got my grandson into a day therapy program, and it took a while for him to adjust, but he has blossomed with his vocabulary in just weeks, and he ACTUALLY LISTENS ... it may take him a while, and a lot of insistence on my part, but he does actually hear me LOL. I am afraid more so each day that he has some form of autism, maybe not full autism, but a form of the disease (called Pervasive Developmental Disorder). He has all signs of it. But he really can be as sweet as sugar, and those are the times I try to remember when he is driving me completely bonkers. And at least now with him in the day therapy I have Monday through Friday during the day hours to myself (if you want to call running errands, doing laundry, cleaning house, cooking dinner, my many doctor appointments, etc. time to myself LOL) - but at least I do have the time to do those things! "Babymama" hasn't seen him in almost a month and a half, she has a new baby now, and we expected her to forget all about him when the new one came along, just as she did his big brother. Actually we are glad, because Hunter does not deal well with changes or any disruptions in his schedule, and every time he came home from her house he was a wild man, and completely withdrawn, and it would take several, and I do mean several, days to get him back to normal.

So, enough about my personal life ... I have something great by MDK Scraps, and FREEBIE cluster frame, coming up on Monday, so be watching out for that. I'm about to start scrapping another great kit by Sugar Pie Scraps, based on the Handy Manny series, and I'm excited about that. Hunter hasn't ever watched that program, so I'm glad the Sugar Pie girls introduced me to it and I now have the DVR set to record! (PLEASE ... anything but Toy Story! I am soooo tired of the Toy Story movies, it's the only thing Hunter has watched for the last 6 months, maybe even longer. And I'm not exaggerating a bit.) I'm excited to be back in the scrapping spirit!

I've combined a great new kit by Digilicious Designs with new templates by Jumbbumble Designs again, and am quite pleased with the results. If not for templates I would be in a serious scrappin' slump right now - actually I've even had a hard time with templates ... but not these templates! And, of course, Digilicious Designs has designed another perfect kit absolutely full of awesomeness!

I so wish I could get a larger preview of the Shutterbug collection by Digilicious Designs, at Digital Scrapbook Studio, but for some reason the previews won't enlarge for me (when I click on them in the store it acts like it's going to open it up, but it just sits there forever and drives me insane - patience not my thing unfortunately). But it's absolutely a wonderful collection full of great stuff for all kinds of photos! The cut-out alpha is by far my absolute favorite now! And when you combine it with the great May Plum Pickens Templates by Jumbbumble Designs, at Polka Dot Plum, you can't go wrong! See my layouts below.

In addition to these, Jumbbumble has TONS of great templates in her store now.

This first layout is one I did for the final ADSR Challenge. I had a lot of fun doing the challenges, but some of them really were a lot tougher than I assumed they would be. I'm not much for recipe challenges, I just hate to be limited with what I can use, but the challenges really made me come out of my comfort zone ... which is a good thing!

I have managed to get so behind in sharing my recent layouts! I'll try to catch up, but only want to share a few a day so they don't get lost. These layouts were done using Sweetest Day by SAS Designs. Everyone should know by now that I love everything she does, but this one is absolutely beautiful. I love the yellows and oranges together. It brings such pop into my layouts.

Wow, it's been so long since I've updated my blog. I'll start off with my sister passed away last week - she was 44 years old, only one year older than me, and we were very close. She has had significant health problems for most of her adult life, but she was suffering with so much more lately. Phyllis was bipolar and she struggled with that just about every day since her teens. Of course, she wasn't diagnosed until later on in life, but it was known there was something serious there. She also suffered from degenerative and arthritic conditions involving her spine, like me, and just in the last few months had been diagnosed with Myasthenia gravis, that had left her two steps from a wheelchair and in constant severe pain. Four days before she passed away she was admitted to the hospital with a 5-6 inch blood clot, diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis, given blood thinners, and released after a few days with a prescription for the blood thinner. Since her release from the hospital, however, she had been extremely dizzy and faint, her speech severely slurred (she had slurred speech before which is an effect of the MG, but it was so much worse), and had an appointment with the doctor about it the morning of her death. We believe the blood thinners and her narcotic pain medication, which had just been increased with the MG diagnosis, interacted negatively somehow, or it could have been directly from the blood clot. Autopsy results will not be received for several months.

So with today being Christmas of course I'm feeling a little blue - knowing I'll never be able to tell Phyllis Merry Christmas again, or hug her or tell her I love her. I feel guilty because Phyllis always wanted to talk, and I always put talking to her off because I was too caught up in my own little world than to take a few minutes just to talk to her - what I wouldn't give for another 2 minutes to tell her how much she is loved. I've been thinking about a time when Phyllis was happiest, and anyone who knows our history knows there wouldn't be too many of those times, but I do remember Phyllis being happy, and her beautiful smile that lit up the room. Phyllis was so smart, and I loved talking to her about anything and everything (I wish I had have taken the time lately to have those conversations). Phyllis was always my protector. She knew me better than anyone - ever. I loved her so much. I wish so desperately I could tell her that right now. I am thankful, though, that she is no longer suffering.

Everyone signed a board and wrote a message to her for her to keep. She got a lot of new toys and clothes. Everyone absolutely loved her cupcake cake that was really, really good, and she thought she was in heaven eating it! Her daddy was away at boot camp, but I’m sure all of his thoughts were of her on this special day." (Bottom) "She helped unwrap the gifts, actually looked at the cards as if reading them, looked at each gift to see what they were, clapped at the sight of the cake and during the happy birthday song, and then ate all of her cupcake!"

Sweet Treats!

This kit, Sweet Treats by What's all the scrap about, available at Enchanted Studio Scraps, is fun with all of the doodles and hand-drawn elements, and, of course, it's wide variety of fantastic papers.

The photo of my granddaughter, Athena, when she was about 3, holding out a piece of candy, has always been one of my favorite pics of her, and this kit was perfect for it. The layout with my teenage daughter, Jenni, was fun, all of the doodles in the kit gave me the idea for a layout with her.

As you can see from my layouts below, this kit is versatile enough for boy and girl layouts, and can be used for any theme, not just the titled "peas in a pod." I just love the selection of flowers, both paper-looking and felt-looking. And, as always, the selection of papers is great enough to feed my paper-fettish!

Wild About You!

I took on a few more CT'ing responsibilities, with a couple of gals that are madly creative - I took a chance a offered myself up to both of them, and they both took me up on my offer! I'm thrilled.

The first is What's all the scrap about? Cheryl is bright and bold in her designs, and obviously loves lots of papers ... just like me! Cheryl is also a fellow Arkansan. I met her a while back when I was CT at K-Joi Studios. I don't think she was designing then, she just created a LOT of layouts - like 10 a day or something. I was always amazed at how she could just crank them out. I also really enjoyed seeing her layouts because every one of them is family or kid oriented. This family does more things with their children than any family I've ever seen. I've always thought about asking her just how many times have they gone to Disneyland.

So the first kit I played with of hers is Wild About You, available at Enchanted Studio Scraps. This kit is definitely wild. It's bright and bold and wild. Below is a preview, along with a few layouts I did.

This is just about the only photo that was worth a darn from Halloween - the others are either too dark or Hunter's too fussy. I had him take a nap before we went, but he still got tired fast.
